INFORMATION FOR CARERS AND PARENTS
We have got together with Cornwall Council and the Children, Schools and Families team to provide supportive and inspiring respite activities EXCLUSIVELY FOR ABLE BROTHERS AND SISTERS OF DISABLED CHILDREN.

The activities are designed to be safe fun, supportive and understanding and encouraging for those siblings who are used to ‘have to wait’ and to be ‘patient’ and understanding’ due to their disabled brother or sister.

We understand that these boys and girls have a great wealth of experience, maturity and love, but that their day to day life is often ruled by the needs of others, and that they have to make more adjustments and compromises than other children at their age due to their family set up.

Therefore we want to bring groups of these siblings together, to enjoy fun activities, stretch their imagination, build confidence and pride, and share their experiences confidentially.

We also want to enable you, the parents and carers to ‘juggle’ less once a month; to find some time to spend with your disabled child alone, without other demands and without feeling that one of your children has to compromise

Generally we expect parents/carers to bring their children to the meetings or arrange their own transport. If you should struggle with this please let us know as early as possible and we will see if we can help.

Please support us to make this great opportunity for your children happen by:
Only submitting able children who are siblings of disabled children (we will not be able to accommodate disabled children, friends, other relatives etc. at the events and can not take responsibility for them! By signing the application form you are agreeing to have read and understood these conditions)

Making sure that children who have been accepted on the project come every time in order to maximise their own and the group’s development. In case of a child not being able to make a session or not wanting to continue, please let us know ASAP

Supporting your child by letting them stretch their abilities and skills. All our practitioners are well experienced, skilled and trained in their craft, we have health professionals and volunteers to support each activity and all have of course CRB checks and insurance to work with children and young people.
If you need to see any policies (e.g. health and safety, confidentiality) insurance and qualification documents before you want to make a decision please let us know and we send you what you need

Letting us know any changes, special needs (dietary, religious or other non-disability related issues) and other information about your child, your family situation and other topics which can impact on your child’s experience with us, his/her behaviour and enjoyment (A dead hamster might not seem to be important to mention-but it is for your child. We know that!)

Enjoying your time away from your child. That will make the days a positive experience for all and will maximise its respite effect. Let us know if you need other help, information or support. We are well connected, and that is what we are here for
